Lappeenranta, Finland (February 23rd, 2022)Jukka-Pekka Mäkinen, Board Member and Business Advisor of SpinDrive receives the Honorary Doctor of Technology award from LUT University. 

LUT University will award 16 new honorary doctorates this spring. LUT will confer the honorary title upon nine distinguished Finnish persons and seven distinguished international partners in cooperation in its next doctoral conferment ceremony at the Lahti Sibelius Hall on 28 May 2022. 

An honorary doctorate is a title granted to especially accomplished persons in recognition of their achievements. The person does not need to have completed an academic doctoral degree.  

Jukka-Pekka Mäkinen has worked closely with LUT for 20 years. The journey started when Mäkinen initiated the Vacon acquisition of Rotatek Finland that was a LUT start-up partially owned by the University Foundation. After that Rotatek was one of the companies that were merged when The Switch was founded and Mäkinen started as founding CEO. 

Since then, there were two tailor-made factories built for The Switch by the City of Lappeenranta. All along the cooperation with LUT has been both close and highly professional. Many students from LUT Universities have found their job even in many cases their first job at The Switch as well as numerous thesis has profited the company as well as students. 

Mäkinen’s work with LUT spin offs continues with a recent role of a Business advisor and Board member of SpinDrive.
